The Godney Gathering "Following a great effort from all the participants, We have also just talked with our Acoustic stage manager and are pleased to now also be able to offer a slot to this years runner-up OSKA ZAKY at next summers Godney Gathering Glastonbury."
There was a voting competition for a slot on the main stage at The Godney Gathering, near Glastonbury, Somerset on Facebook last week, I had entered. Voting started, I was in 3rd place then rose to 2nd place it quickly became a voting frenzy. Friends at school, all my Facebook friends contacted, if they liked my music please vote. My mum got involved her friends got involved to help me the votes kept rising. 100, 200+ wow I was traliing about 100 votes then was catching up my friend at school her mum got involved, the votes were coming from all over the world, Moscow, UAE, Australia, East & West Coast USA, Europe. It was mad. I then went in to the lead a Sikh friend of mine (I met him & his sons during the floods) helped too. I was ahead till the last day of the vote. My poor mum updating Facebook every hour. We tried but they leapt ahead. Votes still rose to the end and they had a 45 lead 894 vs 939.
I only launched my solo career in October 2015 so am totally thrilled to be playing at The Godney Gathering.
Thank you to everyone who helped.
2016 Godney Gathering Glastonbury Earlybird tickets on sale on Tuesday 1st December 2015
1st time in a radio studio & it was live with Ian. It was very chilled just 3 of us. I sat there thinking it's live what if my mind goes blank? So we chatted about my life and what got me into music. We are so lucky in this area with such a wealth of music influence. Glastonbury Festival, Farm Fest, Godney Gathering, Priddy Folk Fest, local gigs and the Extravaganza at the Abbey where I saw Nigel Kennedy aged 4 so started my love of strings. Now I play the Double Bass not quite an under chin instrument! I played 3 of the songs I wrote the latest was only written on 5th November. I just get inspired & noodle about on the guitar & just have to get the ideas down. Also we have lots of music venues with open mic nights, I got to the one at the Hawthorns every Tuesday. A great crowd and there is some very good talent. People always like to chat & share information even though I'm new to the music scean in the area. I have been very welcomed and also at the Sheppy 1st Monday of the Month. Thank you Ian really enjoyed the live slot tonight.
I played at the Glastonbury Youth Battle of the Bands this evening one of 5 finalists. It was an awesome experience especially as I had been struck with a sickness bug on Thursday Morning. I had made my mind up to play, it was a great atmosphere and everyone was very friendly & welcoming. It was also good to chat to likeminded & similar aged musicians. Still felling a little under the weather I played my set. This is one performance I really enjoyed. I changed my middle song as I noted another finalist was doing the same cover, this was noted in the judges comments which was nice.
There were 5 prizes, so enough to go round, there was no 1st, 2nd etc which was nice as the age range was 12 - 16 so everyone felt as though they had achieved. I'm proud to say I won the session at Orchard Recording Studios. This is AMAZING, what a great opportunity.
Young chap finding his feet, likes the finer things but on a lemonade budget, for now!
