So much work goes into this. The devil is in the detail. Who knew how writing a song through to publication was so complex. There are so many things to consider. May I suggest get a budget 1st to see if your ideas fit your wallet! Do get your demo down and then what you want to sound like professionally. I was very lucky having won a competition last year I used the same studio. Still very different recording in a studio. If like me you do not have a band you need more sound than just your guitar. If you do not have mates that can play, you need to either use samples or get some musicians in to play for you. Prepare let them have time to hear your demo and talk to them about the sound you are wanting to achieve, this saves time in the studio also brief the studio to what you want to do and set out a time-line to manage your expectations. It's to easy to think yea well it's all cool we'll rock up and wing it. That can cost time and money. So your good to go, what happens after the recording? Mixing, this gives you the sound you had in your head, you hope. Be clear about what you want so the engineer can interpret your ideas, give them songs you like, drum sounds, loudness sharpness etc. Once your there with that, audio mastering, your levels need to be perfect for distribution, radio, TV and so on. How to distribute your song, no-one specifies a favourite, I've chosen companies that have a UK base. They all offer there special's so call them up and see what fits for you. Promotion, Promotion, Promotion. How are you going to tell people that your music is for sale? Social media is a good start. Launch party mines 18th Nov and I've teamed up with another band in a good local venue. Merchandise well you need to recoup your spending and also getting your brand out there. I've had a lot of help through this process but have learnt about the process and managing expectations vs budget. I do recommend a video this is a great way to show your story with your music, letting the public in to your song. In my first video my mum shot it and I edited it. This next one we have both shot some of the video and my friend Jonty is working with me having been to film school so a trip to see him and shoot some more scenes in London. I hope to be interviewed by a recording artist for my pre my launch video. This is short insite in to recording, artwork, marketing, promotion and budget.
